US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the United States will assist with the growing traffic issues within the Strait of Hormuz, hours after Washington and Tehran finalized a two-week truce regarding the ongoing regional conflict. Consequently, the two nations agreed to a two-week ceasefire just before Trump’s deadline to strike Iran would expire.
Tehran subsequently confirmed that it would allow safe passage through the critical waterway, which carries significant global oil shipments. The Middle East conflict effectively paralyzed this essential route for weeks, which subsequently drove up global crude oil prices.
“The United States of America will be helping with the traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding, “There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process.”
Diplomatic Shifts and Logistics
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi earlier stated that safe passage requires careful coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and technical limitations. Trump clarified his strategy in a separate post on his social media platform regarding the naval presence in the area. He noted that the United States will load up with supplies and “hang around” to ensure success, stating, “I feel confident that it will.”
The president’s current rhetoric contrasts sharply with his intense threat from last week to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages.” Nevertheless, Trump struck an optimistic note on Wednesday, writing, “Just like we are experiencing in the US, this could be the Golden Age of the Middle East!!!”
When reporters asked if he viewed this truce as a victory, Trump firmly told AFP, “Total and complete victory. 100%. No question about it.”
Negotiating the Future
He later claimed on Truth Social: “A big day for World Peace! Iran wants it to happen, they’ve had enough! Likewise, so has everyone else!”
Progress between the parties convinced the president to agree to this temporary ceasefire, as he noted a 10-point proposal from Tehran. He expects that negotiators will finalize and consummate an agreement during this two-week window. Finally, Trump told AFP, “We have a 15 point transaction, of which most of those things have been agreed on. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if it gets there.”
