Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed on Wednesday that Israel supports US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran.
The Prime Minister’s office stated that Israel backs the two-week American move under specific conditions regarding regional security and maritime trade. Specifically, Israel expects that “Tehran immediately opens the straits and stops attacks against the United States, Israel and countries in the region.”
While Jerusalem supports this diplomatic window, officials clarified that the ceasefire agreement does not include military operations within Lebanon. Consequently, the Israeli military maintains its current posture against targets across its northern border despite the temporary suspension of direct strikes on Iran.
Washington Seeks De-escalation
The remarks followed Washington’s announcement of a 14-day suspension of strikes against Iran to de-escalate the widening regional conflict. Furthermore, the White House hopes this pause creates a necessary window for negotiations to resolve the long-standing nuclear and missile standoff.
Israel expressed support for US efforts to ensure Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile, or “terror” threat to neighbors. Additionally, Washington told Israel it remains committed to achieving their “shared goals in upcoming negotiations” to stabilize the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government announced on Wednesday that official negotiations with the US would begin on Friday, April 10 in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.
