AlUla, Saudi Arabia’s ancient oasis city, has secured a spot on the 2026 Global Production Awards Shortlist for “City of Film” category, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Organized by Screen International, the prestigious awards ceremony will take place during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026. It celebrates excellence and sustainability in filming locations, production infrastructure, and cinematic cities.

The recognition of AlUla among the shortlist highlights its growing appeal to filmmakers, owing to its unparalleled natural landscapes and diverse topography which has boosted its status as an attractive open-air filming location drawing productions companies from across the world.
Over the past few years, AlUla has hosted a diverse array of local and international productions, such as films, television programs, and other visual projects, cementing its presence on the global film production map.

These efforts have been supported by the “Film AlUla” initiative, spearheaded by the Royal Commission for AlUla. The initiative features a fully integrated studio complex serving as a regional hub for film and television production.
Furthermore, the “Film AlUla” initiative supports all production stages through providing advanced services, in line with its objective to bolster AlUla’s status as a premier production destination that blends natural beauty with rich historical heritage.
