Al-Budaiwi: GCC Vision for Regional Security Marks Step towards Better Future
The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) convened its session this Thursday evening to review the GCC’s vision for regional security. At the outset of the session, His Excellency Jassim Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC, delivered a welcoming speech.
“Today, as the world faces significant challenges, our shared security forms the foundation upon which we build our safety,” stated Al-Budaiwi.
He emphasized that the GCC stands firmly to support international peace and security and confront all challenges. Al-Budaiwi stressed that peace is the cornerstone of the future. Additionally, he emphasized that dialogue serves as a bridge for communication and interaction. He also said that dialogue is crucial to maintain lasting peace through continuous efforts.
Al-Budaiwi talked about the pillars of the GCC vision for regional security. He said that the pillars include coordinating positions among member states and adopting unified positions on regional and international issues. These pillars are based on principles of respecting countries’ sovereignty and non-interference in their affairs.
He also added that military and security integration among GCC countries has fostered stability. Moreover, it transformed the region into a center for culture and science. Preserving regional security and building strategic relations and international partnerships are key objectives. Furthermore, enhancing maritime security and addressing climate challenges seek to achieve prosperity and well-being.
“Together in the GCC countries, we recognize that the vision paves the way for a new era of cooperation, peace, and prosperity, requiring collaboration and joint work for the future of our countries,” Al-Budaiwi added. “We pray to the Almighty Allah to protect our countries from all harm and misfortune and grant us success.”
Notably, GCC is a regional intergovernmental organization consisting of six Arab states bordering the Persian Gulf: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Established in 1981, the GCC aims to enhance cooperation and integration among its member states in various fields, including economics, politics, culture, and security.
The organization facilitates collaboration on issues of mutual interest and concern, such as regional stability, economic development, and security challenges.
The GCC is a major player in Middle East geopolitics as well as global affairs. It has a combined population of over 60 million and substantial oil and gas reserves. The Gulf Cooperation Council also works to advance peace, prosperity, and advancement in the Gulf area and beyond. It does so through cooperative projects, summits, and agreements.
