Jassim Affirms GCC Commitment to Empower Government Bodies

Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed the leaders’ dedication to empowering all government bodies. They aim to enhance the bodies’ governance, transparency, accountability, and integrity tools to combat corruption.
This commitment involves exchanging expertise and visits among Gulf specialists. Parties will benefit from agreements within the G20 framework and the Riyadh Initiative on cross-border corruption investigations, as corruption negatively affects economic growth and sustainable development.
Ninth Ministerial Meeting
These remarks were made at the ninth meeting of Anti-Corruption Ministerial Committee of the GCC in Muscat, Oman. It was chaired by Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of Oman’s State Audit Institution. The meeting gathered members of Anti-Corruption Ministerial Committee of the GCC.
Al-Budaiwi highlighted the increasing global importance of anti-corruption efforts recently because of its growing negative impact on the countries’ efforts to develop their economy. Furthermore, it has grave social and political transboundary effects that threaten the countries’ stability and safety.
Role of the Ministerial Committee
The committee has enhanced integrity in the field of combating corruption among GCC states. It has established systems and laws, including the Public Money System.
Al-Budaiwi expressed pride in the transparent and explicit steps Gulf Cooperation Council countries have taken against corruption. These efforts have positioned GCC states prominently in regional and international anti-corruption indices.
