Saudi Coffee Company Launches New Competition in Southern Region

The Saudi Coffee Company has launched the second edition of the Saudi Sip of Excellence Competition, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

In collaboration with the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, the competition aims to educate, empower, and celebrate coffee farmers in the Kingdom’s Southern Region.

Broad Participation

To this end, the competition will provide participants of Jazan, Al-Baha, Mahayil Aseer, and Rijal Almaa with a valuable opportunity to showcase their crops in front of a panel of judges from the Alliance for Coffee Excellence.

Interestingly, the panel features experts from pioneering coffee-producing countries, for instance Brazil, Nicaragua, the United Kingdom, Canada, Belgium, the United States, Australia, and Japan.

Prize Pool

The one-month competition will require every participant to introduce 25-kilogram samples of green coffee. Consequently, the samples will be examined and evaluated, and the judges will select 12 farmers to win financial prizes totaling SAR240,000.

Apart from this, the winners will have an exclusive chance to access new markets and expand their network and have new connections with importers, exporters, auctions, exhibitions, and retail outlets.

Ambitious Objectives

Commenting on the competition, CEO of the Saudi Coffee Company Eng. Khalid Abu Theeb noted that this year’s edition will highlight broader participation. Moreover, it will intensively focus on each stage of coffee production. Therefore, the competition will empower local farmers, boost the global reputation of Saudi coffee, promote the quality of coffee in the Southern Region as well as elevate the Kingdom’s coffee industry.

The company invites farmers to submit their entry forms and 1-kilogram coffee samples between January 5 and 9, 2025. After selecting those who qualifying for the second stage, they should provide 25-kilogram samples by January 18.

Stages of the Competition

The competition will consist of three rounds to examine and evaluate the coffee samples.

The first round will start on January 25and review and qualify 40 participants.

Meanwhile, the second round, set to kick off on January 29, will evaluate 20 samples.

In addition, the final round, scheduled for January 30, will evaluate 12 samples.

Eventually, the company will announce the winners at the International Saudi Coffee Exhibition.
