Microsoft announced that the primary cause of the global technical issue affecting the operation of the Microsoft 365 platform has been addressed, but noted that some services and applications are still experiencing issues.
The company said in a statement: “The main cause of the malfunction has been fixed… but there are still impacts on the operation of some Microsoft 365 services and applications.”
The world woke up today, Friday, to a technical glitch that crippled markets, airports, and services worldwide. Moreover, users of Microsoft’s services reported widespread internet outages, hours after the technology company announced it was gradually working on fixing an issue affecting access to Microsoft 365 applications and services.
The outage is linked to a new update from CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity software company. This caused disruptions in many sectors, with stock exchanges, airlines, and banks being the most affected. Trading was halted for several hours, leading to significant financial losses and a ripple effect across global markets.
Airlines also faced extensive delays and cancellations, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at airports. Furthermore, banks experienced system outages that prevented customers from accessing their accounts.
