A massive 320-meter-long and 4-meter-wide painting by Saudi artist Abdullah Al-Barqi captivated visitors at the “Layali Mahayel Hawana” festival, according to Saudi Press Agency.
This winter event in Mahayel showcased the painting, drawing dozens of visitors. Many shared the artwork on social media, expressing admiration.
Artistic Style, Technique
Al-Barqi, in his interview with “WAS,” mentioned his use of the “decorative abstraction” style. The artwork, placed along the festival park’s pathway, incorporates Asir region’s heritage. It includes decorative elements and art forms unique to the area. Floor carpets, each at least 12 meters long, feature designs from “Al-Qatt Al-Asiri” and traditional “Al-Lihaaf” patterns.
Creation Process
Al-Barqi completed this artwork with an assisting team in just six days. The project consumed over 50 gallons of multicolored paints. The festival management initiated the idea to complement the 90-day event at the Mahayel municipal outlook.
Festival’s Success and Activities
Since its launch two months ago, the festival’s visitor count has reached 70,000. People from various provinces of Asir region come to enjoy Mahayel Asir’s warm winter atmosphere. The festival includes daily performances of traditional arts like Al-Damah, Al-Khatwa, and Al-Ardha.
Special children’s shows are held each weekend. Two exhibitions, one for visual arts and another for photography, are also featured.

Mahayel Asir attracts visitors during winter with its moderate climate. The region offers diverse environments, from green plains to overlooking mountains, providing visitors with continually new experiences in a warm setting.
