How Saudi Arabia Is Leveraging China’s Innovation to Accelerate AI Adoption
As part of its broader efforts to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, Saudi Arabia is significantly increasing its engagement with the world’s leading innovation ecosystems through strategic partnerships.
A Strategic Technology Mission to China
The Kingdom’s latest high‑level mission to Shenzhen, China’s renowned hub for technology and manufacturing, reflects a strategic approach to forge international partnerships in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, robotics, cloud computing, and entrepreneurship.
Leading the mission, Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha headed a high-level Saudi delegation bringing together senior officials from the Kingdom’s digital, space, and cybersecurity sectors.
By holding a series of meetings with some of Shenzhen’s leading technology companies, the delegation discussed potential opportunities to further strengthen cooperation in digital transformation while fostering innovation-driven ties between Saudi Arabia and China.
Harnessing Huawei’s AI Expertise
Huawei marked a key stop on the delegation’s agenda as Minister Abdullah Alswaha met with David Wang, the Deputy Chairman of the Board and Rotating Chairman of Huawei, to explore new avenues for deeper collaboration in AI and cloud computing.
The discussions underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to signing strategic partnerships that enhance digital infrastructure, accelerate AI adoption, and support the development of a knowledge-based economy.
Investing in Saudi AI Talent
Apart from technology partnerships, Alswaha met with 20 gifted Saudi students who successfully completed an advanced AI training programme delivered by Huawei in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).

The programme signals Saudi Arabia’s push for equipping national talent with cutting-edge digital skills, ensuring that the Kingdom’s next generation of innovators is ready to advance the ambitions of Vision 2030 and compete in a rapidly AI-powered global economy.
Advancing Intelligent Robotics
The delegation’s agenda extended beyond artificial intelligence to feature the next generation of emerging technologies that redefine industries worldwide. During meetings with executives from UBTECH Robotics, discussions revolved around new horizons to deploy intelligent robotic solutions across various sectors.

Saudi officials also met with Intellifusion’s Dr. Chen Ning to explore potential collaboration in AI inference chips, computer vision, and smart city technologies.
Opening Global Pathways for Saudi Startups
The mission concluded at the KAUST Innovation Hub in Shenzhen, where Alswaha held multiple discussions with entrepreneurs from the ninth cohort of the Tech Founders programme. These discussions focused on connecting Saudi startups with Shenzhen’s world-renowned manufacturing, supply chain, and investment ecosystem, providing entrepreneurs with a significant opportunity to scale their innovations and digital projects.

Overall, the visit seeks to solidify the Kingdom’s as an emerging digital economy and entrepreneurship hub under the Saudi Vision 2030.
