Second Agricultural Festival Enters Third Day in Qilwa

The second agricultural festival in the Qilwa Governorate, Saudi Arabia continues for the third consecutive day. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture’s branch in the governorate organized the festival from February,1 till February 3, reported Saudi Press Agency.
30 farmers, 7 government corners, and 4 productive families are participating in the conference.
The farmers praised the festival, which mirrors the ministry’s commitment to highlighting the diversity of agricultural product in Al Baha region and its governorates.
In a bid to support farmers, the ministry opens marketing channels for their agricultural products.
Additionally, a number of lectures and educational and awareness seminars are held as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to develop and cultivate economically important crops.
The lectures covered the impact of soil salinity on agricultural crop performance, its treatment and best practices for rainfed agriculture.
Self-Sufficiency in Agriculture
The relevant agricultural authorities in the Kingdom are striving to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture including basic agricultural crops, reported Akhbar 24. The authorities have supported the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) since its establishment in 1977, using two-thirds of Arab developmental aid.
Additionally, it supports Saudi farmers through an integrated system that encourages them to innovate and cultivate strategic crops.
The Dutch magazine ‘Vertical Farm’ wrote on the efforts of the specialized agricultural company ‘Murq’ in collaboration with the Taiwanese group YesHealth. They plan to build the largest vertical farm in the Kingdom, specifically in the capital Riyadh.
