Saudi FM Receives Phone Call from Turkey Counterpart
His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Foreign Minister received a phone call today from Hakan Fidan, Turkish Foreign Minister.
During the call, both Foreign Ministers discussed regional and international issues of common interest. In addition, they talked about recently updates in the Gaza Strip and its environs.
They also discussed the Saudi-Turkish relationship and opportunities of developing them in all fields.
KSA AND TURKEY RELATIONS
As two influential powers in the Middle East, their interactions have shaped the regional landscape and have been influenced by a myriad of factors, including historical ties, regional conflicts.
The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Turkey has also been marked by periods of tension and disagreement. The two countries experienced conflicts both in bilateral relations and in terms of their policies towards the region.
Nevertheless, in 2021, both countries took several decisions and started to adopt more flexible attitudes in their foreign policies. Although, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are major economic partners, the two had a tense political relationship in recent years.
Saudi Arabia has an embassy in Ankara and a consulate–general in Istanbul, and Turkey has an embassy in Riyadh and a consulate–general in Jeddah. There are well-established historical and cultural ties the Saudi-Turkish relationship.
KSA Efforts to Revive the Saudi-Turkish relationship
Security cooperation between Turkey and Arab countries is a natural consequence of the ongoing conflicts in the region.
Because global powers have no interest in resolving the region’s crises, despite their emotional rhetoric about the crises, a regional perspective is needed to address security issues regionally.
Despite all the challenges, both Saudi Arabia and Turkey have demonstrated a willingness to engage in dialogue and pursue areas of common interest.
In conclusion, the Saudi-Turkish relationship is a dynamic interplay of cooperation, competition, and strategic manoeuvres.
