Riyadh Metro Launches Full Operations at Western Station

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has successfully inaugurated full operations at the Western Station of the metro, according to Arab News.

This milestone marked the completion of the network’s four main hubs and the introduction of a significant new addition to Riyadh’s expanding public transportation infrastructure.

Opening on Friday, the facility stands out as the largest of the Riyadh Metro’s four landmark stations, joining King Abdullah Financial District Station, STC Al-Olaya Station, and Qasr Al-Hokm Station.

Located in the Dhahrat Al-Badiah quarter, the station spans an area of 112,000 sq. meters along the orange line of the Riyadh Metro.

Built to thoughtfully blend expansive capacity with sustainable design, the Western Station has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification in recognition of its energy efficiency and environmental performance.

Interestingly, the station also features a vast array of integrated facilities, including commercial spaces, public service amenities, as well as a mosque with capacity for 550 worshippers and a dedicated transport parking area accommodating over 600 vehicles.

The inauguration stands as a testament to the accelerating transformation of Riyadh’s integrated urban infrastructure, aligning the broader drive of Saudi Vision 2030 to promote quality of life, boost mobility networks and reduce dependence on private vehicles.

Since opening in December, Riyadh Metro has quickly positioned itself as a cornerstone of Riyadh’s transport network, carrying over 100 million passengers, according to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.

The system operates through a fully automated, driverless model, managed by advanced central control rooms that closely monitor every movement with extraordinary precision, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and service quality.

Moreover, the designs perfectly align with sustainability standards with a special focus on the proper use of environmentally friendly materials. Therefore, it reflects the project’s vision towards elevating the urban environment.

In the light of this, the Riyadh Metro serves as an integral part of Saudi Arabia’s pursuit to build an advanced urban future characterized by connectivity and innovation.
