Saudi Arabia Braces for Continued Thunderstorms until Friday

Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defense has urged the public to be cautious, following new warnings from the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) about continued thunderstorms expected to affect several parts of the Kingdom until Friday, according to the Saudi Gazette.

The Civil Defense has called on the citizens and residents to stay in safe locations, avoid flood-prone areas and valleys, and refrain from swimming in them.

It also urged them to keep a close eye on official instructions issued through various media outlets and social media platforms.

The Makkah region is anticipated to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash floods, hail, and dust storms, the NCM reported.

The affected areas include Turbah, Al-Mawiyah, Al-Khurma, Raniya, Taif, Maysan, Adham, and Al-Ardiyat. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is expected in Makkah, Al-Jumum, and Al-Kamil.

As for the Riyadh region, the center anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall, which may result in flash floods, hail, and dust storms.

This includes the capital Riyadh as well as Al-Dalam, Al-Muzahmiyah, Dhurma, Marat, Al-Qiddiyah, Al-Diriyah, Al-Rayn, Al-Hariq, Al-Kharj, Hawtat Bani Tamim, Afeef, Al-Dawadmi, Al-Quway’iyah, Al-Ghat, Al-Zulfi, Al-Majma’ah, Shaqra, Thadiq, Huraymila, as well as Rumah.

The NCM also forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall in the regions of Madinah, Hail, Qassim, the Northern Borders, the Eastern Province, Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Al-Baha, Asir, Jazan, and Najran.

Such conditions may lead to flash floods, hail, and dust storms across these areas.
