Argentina Declares Iranian Chargé d’Affaires Persona Non Grata

Argentinian Foreign Minister said that his country has declared Iran’s chargé d’affaires, Mohsen Tehrani, persona non grata and ordered his expulsion from the country on Thursday, according to Reuters.

The order requires Tehrani to leave the country within 48 hours.

The decision follows a statement issued Wednesday by Iran’s Foreign Ministry accusing Argentina’s President, Javier Milei—an ally of US President Donald Trump—and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno of complicity in military attacks on Iranian territory.

Argentina’s Foreign Minister described Iran’s claims as “false, offensive, and unfounded accusations against the Argentine Republic and its highest authorities.”

Moreover, the Milei government had designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East. These strikes have killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top security and defense officials in the country.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
