In recognition of its rich cultural heritage, Saudi Arabia has designated 2025 “The Year of Handicrafts” to celebrate the creativity and skill of Saudi artisans.
On this occasion, the Saudi Ministry of Culture launched an online platform to introduce the initiative and its goals. It also released the visual identity guide, which offers guidelines regarding the use of the initiative’s logo and identity, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The logo is inspired by the rich handicrafts’ heritage and the textures of natural materials used in traditional handicrafts, such as wood, clay and leather. Moreover, the logo features icons that showcase Saudi handicrafts, including metalwork, coffee pots, and palm weaving, with authentic, simple, flexible, and adaptable designs.
Over the course of 2025, the Saudi Ministry of Culture will organize a diverse range of cultural events, programs, and interactive competitions to underscore the significance of handicrafts locally and globally as an embodiment of Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage and identity.
The Year of Handicrafts 2025 encourages artisanry practice and preservation by highlighting handicrafts’ cultural, aesthetic, and practical value, and their relevance to everyday life.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Culture, through The Year of Handicrafts 2025, aims to empower Saudi artisans, support their products, contribute to enhancing national industries, and diversify the cultural economy.
It also aims to raise awareness about the importance and value of craft-based professions and products, and their historical significance as part of Saudi Arabia’s cultural identity.
Moreover, The Year of Handicrafts 2025 serves as a platform for highlighting the various types of Saudi handicrafts, boosting their presence in the community’s daily life, and facilitating collaboration between Saudi artisans and local and global communities.
