White House Spokesman Hails 4-Hour Truce in Gaza

John Kirby, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said that Israel will implement a 4-hour truce in the northern Gaza Strip daily, describing this step as a step “in the right direction”.

Kirby added on Thursday that Israel informed America that there will be no military operation in some areas during periods of fight cessation that begin today.

“There will be two humanitarian corridors that will allow people to flee the fighting in Gaza,” he explained, expressing the United States’ concern about “the possibility of Hamas preventing civilians from fleeing.”

The White House National Security Council spokesman reiterated that his country does not support a ceasefire in Gaza currently.

He pointed out that America aims for at least 150 humanitarian aid trucks to enter Gaza daily.

On his part, US President Joe Biden told reporters on Thursday that he seeks to stop the fighting for three days in Gaza, and for a much longer period, so that detainees held by the Hamas movement can be released.

In the same vein, Ofir Gendelman, spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Thursday that the war in the Gaza Strip will continue, adding, “there is no ceasefire in Gaza without the release of detainees.”

Gendelman added, via the “X” platform, that Israel allows safe passages from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip, through which about 50,000 people passed yesterday only.
