Vegetation Cover Plants Million Trees in Buraidah Oasis
Private Sector Involvement in Tree Planting Projects
The National Center for the Development of Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with the National Water Company, has completed planting a million trees in Buraidah Oasis.
This oasis spans over an area exceeding 28 million square meters in the Al-Qassim region, contributing to the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative to plant 10 billion trees and the national tree planting program.
Private Sector Involvement in Tree Planting Projects
Importantly, the private sector is crucial in tree planting projects across the Kingdom. These projects, supervised by the center, aim to cut carbon dioxide emissions, according to Riyadh Newspaper.
Furthermore, they also focus on protecting local species’ ecosystems from extinction and encourage sustainable practices.
National Tree Planting Program Initiative
Consequently, the “Vegetation Cover” center has launched the National Tree Planting Program. This program, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, is active in 13 regional branches. It involves a wide range of participants – government, private sector, non-profits, and volunteers. Thus, their collective goal is to fulfill the Saudi Green Initiative’s objectives.
Center’s Role in Vegetation Development
The center focuses on developing and protecting vegetation sites, monitoring and rehabilitating degraded areas, including managing pastures, forests, and national parks, and exploiting them.
It also addresses encroachments on vegetation cover, combats logging around the Kingdom, and conserves natural resources and biodiversity.
