These efforts aim to achieve the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative. It will contribute to planting millions of mangrove trees. Moreover, this will enhance and flourish mangrove forests.

The center aims to plant 100 million mangrove trees along the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf coasts in the coming years. Currently, it is also working on increasing green spaces and combating desertification in coastal areas by planting one million mangrove trees.

About a year ago, the center launched projects to plant 700,000 mangrove seedlings (200,000 in Ras Abu Ali Island in Al-Jubail Governorate and 500,000 in Al-Wajh Governorate). This includes fencing and caring for the seedlings to protect them from algae and seaweed. Additional tasks involve preparing the nursery, collecting and purifying mature and healthy seeds, and then sowing them in the nursery.

Mangrove planting projects are part of a series of contracts the center has signed to enhance and develop Saudi Arabia’s coasts with mangrove forests. These forests represent a vital lifeline for coastal environments and vegetation. Additionally, they play a significant role in combating climate change in the Kingdom.

The center is also focused on developing, protecting, and preserving plant cover areas, rehabilitating degraded sites, and restoring biodiversity in natural environments. Furthermore, it oversees the management and investment of rangelands and national parks to achieve sustainable development. This will improve quality of life and meet the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.
