US Elections Turn into Men VS Women Clash, Harris Depends on Female’s Votes
An ad for Kamala Harris has shown a woman casting her ballot for Harris while her husband believes she is voting for Donald Trump and a voiceover says: “What happens in the booth, stays in the booth.”
No Need to Tell Your Husband
Through a short clip, Julia Roberts follows the couple arriving at a polling station while wearing baseball caps featuring the American flag, which often stands as a symbol for Trump supporters, AFP reported.
Financed by a religious nonprofit organization, the ad has sparked anger within the Trump camp. Moreover, the former president describing it as “stupid” and wondered “Can you imagine a wife not telling her husband who she’s voting for?”
During the clip, the wife shares certain glances with another woman before casting her vote for the Democratic candidate.
“You can vote any way you want, and no one will ever know,” the voiceover says, before the husband asks, “Did you make the right choice?”
“Sure did, honey,” the woman replies.
A host on conservative Fox News stated that if his wife secretly voted for Harris, that would be exactly “the same thing as having an affair.”
Meanwhile, former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich announced that the Harris spot was an example of the depth of her camp’s “corruption.”
Lincoln Project
The Lincoln Project, an Anti-Trump political group, also launched a similar ad featuring two upper-middle class men who assure each other their wives are going to vote for Trump. Then, both women and other women fill in their ballots for Harris.
Two Important Facts
Obviously, angry reactions of Trump supporters stress two fundamental facts about the US presidential race.
The first one is that both candidates are definitely battling to win the presidency. It is perhaps the most down-to-the-wire presidential race in the modern US history.
The other one is that Harris continues to acquire women voting marking the first gender gap in votes in the US history.
Men VS Women Clash
As a proof, a latest poll by NBC showed a 34-percentage point difference between male and female voters.
The female candidate has gained 16-point lead among women while Trump has an 18-point lead among men.
Therefore, the elections turned into a clear clash between “traditional and kind of patriarchal masculinity,” according to Kelly Dittmar, a political science professor at Rutgers University.
