US considers banning all Huawei products due to spying
Reuters News Agency said that the administration of US President Joe Biden is considering banning all Huawei products from entering America due to espionage.
Reuters added that the investigation is looking into Huawei’s spying on military bases inside America.
The investigation is also looking into the work of towers belonging to the Chinese company Huawei near military bases inside America, which has already begun.
The US investigation includes examining the use of Huawei towers inside America as an early warning system for China.
One of the sources, who asked not to be named because the matter is private and contains information about national security, said that the authorities are worried that Huawei would gain critical information regarding military drills and readiness.
The previously unreported investigation was opened shortly after Joe Biden took office early last year.
The agency summoned Huawei in April 2021 to learn the company’s policy on sharing data with third parties.
The equipment can capture data from mobile phones, including messages and geographic data, according to the 10-page document seen by Reuters.
The Commerce Department said it could not “confirm or deny the ongoing investigations”. “The United States’ protection of people’s safety and security against malicious information is vital to protecting our economy and national security,” she added.
Huawei did not respond to a request for comment, and the company vehemently denies the US government’s allegations.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not respond to the specific allegations.
an email statement was sent saying “The US government is violating the idea of national security, and the state’s authority is trying to suppress Huawei and other Chinese firms, without providing any concrete evidence”
Reuters was unable to determine what actions the government might take against Huawei.
Eight current and former US government officials said the investigation reflects outstanding national security concerns, especially as the company has already been subjected to a slew of US restrictions in recent years.
