UNESCO, Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation to Mark World Arabic Day

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in collaboration with Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation, will celebrate the World Arabic Language Day at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, on December 18, 2024.

The World Arabic Language Day is an annual celebration that aims to highlight the status and importance of the Arabic language as a means of cultural and civilizational interaction among nations.

Under the theme “Arabic Language and AI: Advancing Innovation while Preserving Cultural Heritage,” the event will feature dialogue sessions and workshops that focus on leveraging advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to support the Arabic language and expand its global reach.

Furthermore, the sessions will include discussions on how to utilize AI in developing Arabic language learning tools, including machine learning and machine translation applications, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The sessions will also discuss ways to preserve cultural and language heritage through digitization, as well as exploring innovative project models that contribute to promoting Arabic content online and making it easier for non-native speakers to learn the language.

A distinguished panel of academics and international experts will take part in these sessions, in addition to enthusiasts and researchers who will share their experiences and research on the Arabic language and advanced technologies.

On this occasion, the Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation noted that its support for this event aligns with its continued commitment to serve the Arabic language and bolster its global status.

It also pointed out that harnessing AI provides a golden opportunity to advance the Arabic language and empower it to adapt to the rapid technological advancements.
