US President Donald Trump warned Cuba on Sunday to strike a deal immediately or face severe, unspecified consequences from Washington. Consequently, the administration confirmed that the vital flow of Venezuelan oil and financial aid to Havana will now stop.
“THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA – ZERO!” the President declared on Truth Social, strongly suggesting that the island nation must make a deal, “BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE,” for the Cuban people. These remarks follow last week’s dramatic seizure of Nicolas Maduro in Caracas, which reportedly neutralized dozens of security personnel.
Shifting Regional Dynamics
Trump claimed that Cuba previously relied on massive Venezuelan subsidies in exchange for providing security services to the former regime. However, he asserted that most of those Cuban forces died during the recent US attack on the Venezuelan capital. The President also hinted at a leadership change by reposting a suggestion that Secretary Marco Rubio should lead Cuba.
Since 2000, Havana has relied on oil shipments established under a pact between Hugo Chavez and the Cuban government. Nevertheless, Trump signaled that the United States now protects Venezuela and its vast resources from what he called foreign thugs. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely while urging the Cuban leadership to reconsider its stance toward the West.
