Three Saudi Cities Join UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added three more Saudi cities to its prestigious Global Network of Learning Cities, marking another milestone in the Kingdom’s progress in lifelong learning, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

UNESCO selected Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra for membership after the cities showed compliance with international standards that embed lifelong learning across daily life, including schools, workplaces, public spaces, and even homes.

The three cities exemplify dynamic learning communities, providing unique opportunities to upskill and elevate their workforces in line with modern labor markets.

They also increase literacy initiatives for those who missed early education, enable citizens of all ages to adapt to the challenges of the artificial intelligence era, and boost a broad-based entrepreneurial culture.

This accomplishment stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s rabid growth in elevating the lifelong learning system and aligning education with the requirements of sustainable development.

By adding these three cities, Saudi Arabia has expanded its presence in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities to eight members: Jubail, Yanbu, Madinah, Al-Ahsa, King Abdullah Economic City, Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra.

UNESCO said that this notable expansion mirrors the Kingdom’s success in introducing a comprehensive educational model aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, while underscoring its capacity to offer high-quality learning experiences.
