Saudi Children Internet Use Records Surge
A UNICEF official has pointed out increase in children internet use, highlighting that approximately 90% of Saudi children use the internet.
This statistic underscores the Gulf region’s significant digital access, reaching over 96%.
Framework for Children Internet Use
To enhance child safety online, Saudi Arabia has launched a national framework for children’s safety.
This framework aligns with international standards and was unveiled at the Saudi Family Forum’s sixth edition.
The National Family Affairs Council developed it in collaboration with UNICEF experts.
Opportunities & Challenges in the Digital Age
Eltayeb Adam, UNICEF’s representative for the Arab states in the Gulf, spoke to “Alarabiya.net”.
He emphasized the varied and significant opportunities the internet provides for children.
These include acquiring knowledge and building capabilities.
However, he also noted the risks, especially post-pandemic, such as exposure to violence, abuse, and sexual exploitation.
Safeguarding Children in Digital World
The national framework aims to protect children from cyber risks.
Furthermore, it will enhance societal awareness of cyber security.
Thus, this initiative seeks to create an environment cognizant of digital dangers, safeguarding children’s rights.
The Saudi Family Forum 2023 marked a significant milestone with the unveiling of the National Framework for Children’s Online Safety.
Also, this initiative, orchestrated by the Family Affairs Council (FAC) in partnership with UNICEF, aligns with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Moreover, it is designed to safeguard individuals under the age of 18 against digital dangers.
