Saudi Arabia Shines in Equestrian Show Jumping at Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games

The talented Saudi Abdullah Al-Sharbatly won his country a gold medal in equestrian show jumping on Friday at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Emirati Omar Al-Junaibi and Emirati Abdullah Al-Marri won the silver medal and the bronze medal, respectively.

The 41-year-old Al-Sharbatly aboard the Scovervolts Palutundro recorded 39.68 seconds, surpassing Emirati Omar Al-Junaibi (Dalida van de Zoethove) by 42.31 seconds and Abdullah Al-Marri (James VD Audi Haihof) by 42.45 seconds.

This is the second gold medal for Sharbatly in the current games. He shared the title of the team show jumping competition with Abdul Rahman Al Rajhi, Ramzi Al Dahami and Mishari Al Harbi.

This outstanding victory showcases Saudi Arabia’s prowess in the world of equestrian sports and highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to promoting excellence and success in various fields.

Glamourous History in Equestrian

 

Saudi equestrians have a rich history of success in equestrian show jumping, and Abdullah Al-Sharbatly is a shining example of this legacy.

Sharbatly has previously won gold medals in team events in 2006, 2010, and 2018, as well as an individual gold medal in 2014. Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in securing a bronze medal for the team during the 2012 London Olympics.

Saudi Arabia raised its total of gold medals to 4, ranking sixteenth in the overall rankings.

Saudi Arabia’s equestrian journey at the Asian Games began with their inaugural participation in Doha in 2006. The team clinched a gold medal in the team event, a title they successfully defended in Guangzhou in 2010. Additionally, the Saudi equestrians secured an individual gold medal through Ramzy Al-Duhami and a bronze medal through Khaled Al-Eid.

The kingdom’s equestrian success continued in Incheon in 2014, with Al-Sharbatly winning an individual gold medal and the team securing a silver medal. The Saudi equestrians further demonstrated their prowess in Jakarta in 2018 by clinching the gold medal in the team event.
