UN Spokesperson Hails KSA’s Role in Palestinian Cause

spokesperson for the United Nations Hails KSA's Role in Palestinian Cause

The official spokesperson for the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, hails the role of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Palestinian Cause.

Dujarric confirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has harnessed its historical and diplomatic influence. The Kingdom played an extremely constructive role not only in ending the conflict in Gaza but also in seeking a political solution to the conflict and the Palestinian cause.

It established peace through its chairmanship of the ministerial committee formed during the recent joint Arab-Islamic Summit meeting held in Riyadh, along with other member states of the committee.

Stephane Dujarric, in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, said that the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has been regularly meeting with the ministerial committee formed during the Arab and Islamic Summit held recently in Riyadh under the leadership of the Kingdom, as well as the Arab Group and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. They have a historic and important role to do everything diplomatically possible to see an end to this conflict and to find a political solution.

He added that the Secretary-General has been working, pushing, and calling for a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons for some time now.

Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

He affirmed that “our focus now is on trying to provide as much humanitarian aid as possible. We are mobilizing all the resources of the United Nations, where more than 100 trucks enter almost daily. On the political side, through our special coordinator in Jerusalem, we continue our clear communications with both the Israelis and the Palestinians and with the regional countries.”

Regarding the reforms the United Nations seeks to undertake in fulfilling its role, he said that “the Secretary-General has called for reforming the way the Security Council works to make it more representative of the world we live in today in 2023 than it was in 1945. This affects the work of the Security Council. It affects the credibility of our work, and the effectiveness of the Security Council, so it can face global challenges and the effectiveness of diplomatic work.”
