Marine mechanical engineer Reem AlKhowaiter won the Young Woman Achiever award, on the sidelines of the ShipTek International Awards 2024 conference in Dubai.
The Young Woman Achiever of the Year award is among the promising annual global awards in the field of maritime transport. Many of those interested in the field seek to win this award.
Nominations are based on specific criteria and are set by specialized experts in the sector.
AlKhowaiter stands out as the first Saudi female mechanical engineer working in the maritime transport sector, continuing her professional career at Bahri, the national shipping company of the Kingdom.
Bahri is the largest owner and operator of Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) and chemical tankers in the Middle East.
The rate of Saudi women joining the maritime transport sector is on the rise, reflecting the ongoing efforts to achieve the objectives of the national strategy for transport and logistics services.
The ShipTek International Awards is one of the leading maritime conferences in the maritime transport sector. It was held this year in Dubai during January 24-25, 2024.
Saudi-Moroccan Cooperation in Maritime Sector
The Saudi-Moroccan Technical Committee for Maritime Transport and Ports concluded its first meeting in the city of Casablanca, Morocco last year. It aimed to develop bilateral relations in the maritime transport and ports industry.
Conversely, the meeting was chaired by Abdulrahman Althonayan, the Deputy Director of Maritime Transport at the General Authority of Transport, and Najib Al-Karkouri, the Director of Maritime Navigation in Morocco.
Strengthening Strategic Maritime Partnership
Also, both parties emphasized the deep strategic partnership between the two Kingdoms. Moreover, they highlighted the need to enhance it in various sectors to serve the maritime industry and seafarers.
Additionally, the meeting also aimed to continue the integration and coordination process through the committee. Furthermore, it discussed ways to promote cooperation and exchange expertise between relevant authorities.
