Egypt exports 10,456 honey bee packages to Saudi Arabia
Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Sayed Al-Qusair, praised the efforts made by the General Authority for Veterinary Services, in cooperation with the Central Administration for Foreign Agricultural Relations, to meet the requirements of Saudi Arabia.
it carried out quarantine procedures and control work on the production system of honey bees and the resumption of export to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Al-Qusair said that 11 shipments with a total number of 10,456 honey bee parcels have been exported since the decision to lift the ban and resume the export of Egyptian honey bees to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The aforementioned exported parcels are examined by the Plant Protection Research Institute, and there are no African, Asian, or European hybrid bees in Egypt.
He pointed out that Egyptian apiaries are subject to periodic inspection and application of production requirements, and only apiaries free of diseases and pests stipulated by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) are allowed to export.
The Minister of Agriculture added that there is self-sufficiency in honey bees, which are characterized by their ability to adapt to semi-arid environmental conditions
He also praised its characteristics of disease resistance and high productivity in the presence of pastures, and that Egypt has not imported bees for 5 years.
