Shah’s Son Opposes Any US Deal That Keeps Islamic Republic in Power

Reza Pahlavi, the US-based son of Iran’s ousted shah, urged Washington on Tuesday not to sign a deal with Tehran that would allow the Islamic Republic to remain in power, according to Arab News.

During a visit to London, 65-year-old Reza Pahlavi met with British lawmakers and called on the international community to back Iran’s opposition movement rather than seek rapprochement with Tehran.

“Dealing with this regime will fail and we will all face the consequences,” he declared in a social media post.

He further noted that for 47 years, the Iranian regime has created a conflict with its people. “Just as it has never made peace with its own citizens, it will never truly make peace with the world,” Pahlavi added.

Pahlavi, son of the late shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was toppled in the 1979 revolution, declared that he is “preparing to return to my homeland,” a moment he believes is coming “very near.”

The exiled crown prince has repeatedly called for a nationwide referendum that would allow Iranians to choose a new form of government.

“Any agreement that preserves this regime or its remnants will fail. The Iranian people will not accept it,” Pahlavi warned.

Moreover, he remains a controversial figure, drawing criticism from some opponents of the Islamic Republic for his support of Israel and for not distancing himself from the authoritarian legacy of his father’s regime.

“With or without international support, the people of Iran will overthrow this regime. Freedom will come to Iran.”
