The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) reported an unprecedented 82% increase in licensed factories and warehouses in 2024 compared to 2023.
This surge is attributed to several factors, primarily the enhancement of the regulatory framework, which has empowered investors through a strategic plan comprising multiple initiatives. Notably, one initiative focuses on re-engineering licensing procedures, while others aim to stimulate industry growth and promote local production in collaboration with relevant government entities.
In 2024, the SFDA issued licenses for 693 food factories and 3,857 food warehouses. The pharmaceutical sector saw approvals for eight factories and 565 warehouses. Additionally, 42 factories and 857 warehouses were licensed in the cosmetics sector, 24 factories and 1,405 warehouses in the medical devices sector, and 29 factories and 270 warehouses in the feed sector. The authority also granted licenses to nine private laboratories.
