SFDA: Childhood Obesity Risk Grows—Prevention Starts at Home

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) shares with the community the most important health practices for preventing childhood obesity, in conjunction with World Obesity Day, observed annually on March 4. This initiative aligns with its role in promoting health awareness, preventing diet-related diseases, and supporting the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the key programs of Saudi Vision 2030.

In its awareness publications, the SFDA emphasized the vital role of families in instilling healthy habits in children. It highlighted the importance of encouraging them to drink water and natural juices instead of soft drinks and to reduce the consumption of fast food, which is a major factor contributing to weight gain and associated health issues.

The SFDA also recommended adopting healthier cooking methods, such as grilling and roasting instead of frying. It stressed that addressing childhood obesity requires increased societal awareness, especially given the global rise in obesity rates.

These efforts reflect the SFDA’s commitment to contributing to the development of a healthier generation and promoting a culture of prevention to mitigate the negative impacts of this phenomenon on future generations.
