SDAIA President, Chinese Ambassador Visit UNESCO’s AI Ethics Center in Riyadh

Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi, President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), and Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua visited the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), a UNESCO-affiliated institution based in Riyadh.
Dr. Alghamdi reviewed the center’s progress and its global initiatives to advance AI ethics and promote women’s empowerment.
During the visit, ICAIRE Acting Managing Director Abdulrahman Habib outlined the center’s major efforts, including the Elevate Initiative, which aims to train and empower 25,000 women worldwide in AI. The program enhances women’s expertise in advanced AI technologies, preparing them for the job market while serving as a model for inclusivity and empowerment.

Habib emphasized ICAIRE’s mission to encourage the responsible use of AI and to help countries build ethical frameworks that ensure technology benefits humanity. The center’s work is anchored on four pillars: advancing research and development, raising awareness of AI ethics, strengthening skills and capabilities, and shaping policies and recommendations.
He also highlighted ICAIRE’s role in organizing the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) and launching its first global research initiative, which brings together researchers to produce impactful studies published in leading scientific journals.

Additionally, ICAIRE collaborates with Arab and regional organizations, supports Saudi Arabia in applying UNESCO’s Readiness Assessment Methodology, and actively engages with the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.
