Saudi Teams Make History at Formula 1 in Schools World Finals

Three Saudi Teams have made history in the Aramco Formula 1® in Schools 2024 securing prestigious awards in the World Finals.

Held from November 23 to 26 at Dhahran Expo, the competition brought together more than 450 students from all over the world.

Crucially, it was the first time for Saudi Arabia to host such a competition with the participation of 29,000 schools worldwide.

The Clad team secured the Enterprise Portfolio Award, while Oryx claimed Best Engineered Car and Shaheen won Best Application of Project Management.

Saudi Aramco’s Vice President of Public Affairs, Mr. Khalid Al-Zamil, has inaugurated the ceremony with special thanks to the participants and their families and mentors.

“We celebrate Formula 1® and are proud to hold this global event on the Kingdom’s soil for the first time. Today is nothing but the culmination of efforts, as you are all winners by what you have achieved today,” Al-Zamil added.

Ithra’s Pivotal Role

Formula 1 in Schools World Finals

The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, otherwise known as Ithra, supervised the Saudi teams’ preparation during a training program run for 11 months.

With a strong focus on engineering, design and teamwork, the program was led by 37 experts from 6 specialized centers.

In this regard, student Noura Al-Tamimi from the CLAD team described the award as “the result of continuous efforts, and they would not secure it without the support of local and international experts from the Ithra Center.”

In 2023, the Saudi Oryx team won the Innovative Thinking, Women in Motorsport and Identity awards in a global competition in Singapore with the participation of 68 teams from 29 countries.

The program has a unified curriculum covering physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacturing, branding, graphic design, sponsorship, marketing, leadership, teamwork, media skills.
