The Saudi Mathematics Team won 10 awards (2 silver, 5 bronze, and 3 certificates of appreciation) at the 36th edition of the Asia-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO), competing among 345 students from 38 countries.
Dr. Amal Al-Hazzaa, Secretary-General of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba,” congratulated the students, their families, and educational administrations on their achievements. She wished them continued success and emphasized that their victory in the global competition is a source of national pride.
This participation is part of the Talent program for international Olympiads, held in partnership with the Ministry of Education. It’s one of 20 programs offering advanced curricula and enrichment for gifted students. Throughout this journey, students go through stages that explore and enhance their talents with support from local and international partners.
Saudi students’ superior performance compared to peers from advanced countries with extensive experience in international math competitions validates Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education’s approach to preparing and empowering Saudi talents. This achievement also reflects the wise leadership’s commitment to high-quality education and support for students in various forums and competitions.
The team, last year, won a silver medal and 5 bronze medals in the previous competition. The Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad is an international event that discovers and encourages mathematically talented students from Asia and the Pacific. Furthermore, it promotes friendly relations and cooperation between students and teachers, and provides opportunities to exchange information on curricula and practices in the region.
