Saudi Ports Hit 13.6% Container Growth in March 2025

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) reported a 13.61% rise in container handling for March 2025, reaching 699,928 TEUs. This growth highlights accelerating trade activity and infrastructure efficiency.

Export containers soared to 280,341 TEUs, up 31.82% from 212,672 TEUs in 2024. Meanwhile, imports climbed 7.78% to 281,216 TEUs, reflecting robust domestic demand and global trade partnerships.

Transshipment Activity Dips Slightly

Transshipment volumes fell 2.89% to 138,371 TEUs, down from 142,495 TEUs in 2024. Analysts attribute this shift to evolving logistics strategies and regional competition. However, total handled tonnage rose 8.69% to 21.18 million tons, with liquid bulk cargo dominating at 15.69 million tons. Solid bulk cargo hit 4.51 million tons, while general cargo reached 971,850 tons.

Livestock numbers dropped 9.42% to 870,566 heads, compared to 961,131 in March 2024. The decline aligns with diversification efforts in food supply chains and local production gains.

Mawani’s February 2025 exports surged 18.25% to 215,491 TEUs, up from 182,229 TEUs in 2024. This upward trend set the stage for March’s record performance, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s growing global trade influence.
