Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sports has collaborated with the Ministry of Education to launch the first Government Sports School for Talented Athletes at the middle school level.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the school was inaugurated by the Minister of Sports and chairman of the Mahd Sports Academy’s board of directors Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki and Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan.
The school will provide students with educational and sports knowledge under one umbrella preparing them to thrive in the sports sector and win prestigious championships and titles all over the world.
Signed at the Mahd Sports’s headquarters in Prince Faisal bin Fahad Olympic Complex, the partnership between the ministries and the academy aims at improving the concept of practicing sports among students.
“The Ministry of Education is intensifying its efforts in comprehensive educational and teaching care for gifted students. Therefore, it has set some strategic objectives, including increasing and improving access opportunities for gifted students, as well as creating innovative educational models, improving school performance, and strengthening their connection to society,” the Ministry of Education said.
The academy’s President Abdullah bin Faisal Hammad noted that 354 talented individuals in football, athletics, and martial arts have applied in the first phase.
Hammad also added that the academy aims to become a global leader in discovering sports talents and prepare one million talents in various sports.
