Saudi Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi, had a meeting with International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General, Gilbert Houngbo, on Tuesday at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
Al-Rajhi handed over Saudi Arabia’s ratification document of ILO Convention No. 187 on the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
During the meeting, both officials explored the latest developments in the global labor markets. They stressed the importance of collaboration to develop effective policies that protect workers’ rights and regulate labor relations, considering rapid and continuous changes in labor markets.
Furthermore, the Saudi Minister showcased the most significant accomplishments in the field of occupational safety and health. He also highlighted the importance of partnership with the ILO, praising its effective participation in the first edition of the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC).
Several officials attended the meeting, including Abdulmohsen Majed Bin Khothaila, the Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN; Dr. Ruba Jaradat, the ILO Regional Director for Arab States; and other officials from both sides.
Saudi Arabia’s ratification of the ILO Convention No.187 is an extension of the Kingdom’s efforts on the national level, reflected in a package of reforms and initiatives to create an attractive and competitive labor market.
Moreover, it is a confirmation of the Kingdom’s proactive role in aligning with the international labor standards to create a healthy and safe work environment for all workers.
