Saudi Green Revolution: Riyadh Hits 1M Square Meters of Urban Parks

Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, has achieved a remarkable milestone in urban sustainability, as the city’s green spaces now exceed 1 million square meters, with parks and recreational areas spread across its neighborhoods. This expansion reflects the municipality’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and environmental stewardship.

The Riyadh Municipality officials have announced that the city currently manages 762 parks and recreational zones which the municipality strategically distributed across various neighborhoods to serve local residents. Consequently, these efforts ensure that every citizen lives within walking distance of a clean, functional, and modern public green space. The municipality developed 120 of these parks recently, maintaining a remarkable average growth rate of two new parks every month.

Iconic Botanical Landmarks

The capital also features the world-renowned King Abdullah Gardens, a project that ranks among the three largest botanical gardens globally. Spanning an incredible 1.5 million square meters, this landmark facility provides an immersive experience for families and international tourists alike. The site hosts a diverse collection of water gardens, children’s play areas, bird sanctuaries, and a specialized botanical museum.

Furthermore, the municipality explained that it will continue to increase the total number of recreational areas to enhance urban living. Leaders aim to improve the capital’s sustainability features while ensuring that green spaces remain easily accessible for all city residents. Through these initiatives, Riyadh is quickly becoming a global leader in environmental development and modern metropolitan landscaping for the future.
