Saudi Governor of Eastern Region stresses importance of natural resources development

Governor of the Eastern Region His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, launched the “National Center for the Prevention and Control of Animal and Plant Pests and Epidemics (Weqaa).

He said that he appreciates the care and attention given by the wise leadership – may God bless them – to the environment, water, and agriculture sector. He affirms that the eastern region is rich in a variety of natural resources that require work to preserve, develop and sustain them. 

This came during a meeting with the Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Eastern Province, Eng. Amer Al-Mutairi and a number of the branch leaders. 

During the meeting, HRH was briefed on the institutional changes in the Ministry’s branch. Prince Saud bin Nayef praised the vital and important role that the Ministry plays in carrying out its tasks and specializations in the region. He also praised the ministry’s support to farmers and fishermen. This came in reference to the programs offered by the Ministry’s branch in the region in order to preserve the environment.

The Governor of the Eastern Region stressed the importance of intensifying initiatives Awareness of the development of vegetation cover. 

In turn, M. Al-Mutairi called for the establishment of some centers and companies and the activation of relevant decisions and orders within the framework of the national transformation and privatization that the ministry is witnessing. He indicated that these transformations included the launch and empowerment of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Animal and Plant Pests and Epidemics “Waqaa”. 

The center plans include setting strategies, programs, procedures, rules for qualification, licensing of service providers, supervising, controlling their work, and periodic detection to ensure that pests do not spread in cooperation with the competent authorities, and holding exhibitions, conferences, seminars and awareness campaigns regarding pest control and other specialties which will be carried out by the Center in accordance with its basic organization.
