Saudi Calls for Action on Gaza Violence, Forced Displacement

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine has led to a dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In response to the escalating violence, Saudi Arabia has been actively urging the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, has engaged in diplomatic efforts to address the situation and ensure the protection of innocent civilians.

In a significant diplomatic move, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The purpose of the call was to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and Israel, as well as explore potential strategies to de-escalate the violence.

Both officials expressed their concern over the targeting of civilians and emphasized the need to condemn such acts.

Qatar’s Prime Minister reaffirmed the country’s firm position against the killing of innocent civilians, particularly women and children, and rejected any policy of collective punishment. The State of Qatar, in alignment with Saudi Arabia, denounced these actions as unacceptable under any pretext.

Recognizing the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, Prince Faisal emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian corridors to ensure the delivery of relief and aid to the Palestinians who are currently under bombardment. The deteriorating conditions in Gaza have exacerbated the need for immediate assistance, making the establishment of humanitarian corridors a crucial priority.

Warning Against Forced Displacement

Prince Faisal also expressed concerns about attempts to force the Palestinian people out of Gaza. He stressed the importance of recognizing the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Saudi Arabia firmly supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The forced displacement of the Palestinian population would not only exacerbate the humanitarian crisis but also undermine the pursuit of a just and comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Saudi Arabia’s warning against such actions highlights its commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of the Palestinian people.

Saudi Arabia’s Diplomatic Efforts

In addition to the phone call with Qatar, Prince Faisal bin Farhan engaged in discussions with several other foreign counterparts to address the Gaza crisis. He held conversations with foreign ministers from the United Kingdom, Brazil, Malta, Albania, India, Norway, Sweden, Indonesia and the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief, Joseph Borrell.

During these discussions, the Saudi Foreign Minister emphasized the significance of implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions related to the Palestinian issue. He stressed the need for a just and comprehensive solution in accordance with international law. These diplomatic efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia’s call for action on Gaza violence and forced displacement has garnered support from various countries. The international community’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia’s position underscores the urgency of addressing the ongoing crisis and ensuring the protection of innocent lives. It highlights the need for collective efforts to bring about a sustainable solution that upholds human rights and international law.
