Reflecting that momentum, Saudia Cargo has unveiled a scheduled service linking Riyadh (RUH) with Melbourne (MEL), Australia, further broadening its international network while enhancing economic relations and streamlining the movement of goods between the two nations.
A New Gateway to Australia
The new connection highlights Saudia Cargo’s commitment to boosting its international presence while providing a seamless freight corridor between Saudi Arabia and Australia.
Operated by a Boeing 747-400 freighter with a payload capacity surpassing 100 tonnes, the route is well suited for transporting heavy machinery, oversized cargo, and other specialized freight.
Responding to increasing demand for faster and more efficient freight services, the new route plays a pivotal role in fostering global supply chains and expanding market access of Saudi products in Australia.
Why Does This Partnership Matter?
More boldly, the launch also shines a spotlight on the close collaboration between Saudia Cargo, the Kingdom’s national logistics carrier, the General Authority of Foreign Trade (GAFT), and the Saudi Export Development Authority (Saudi Exports) to transform the country’s trade and export ecosystem and position the Kingdom at the forefront of global logistics hubs.

Commenting on the new step, Saudia Cargo stated: “The Melbourne route reflects our commitment to expanding strategic global connectivity, enabling Saudi exports to reach new markets while strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a leading global logistics hub.”
Standing out as the latest breakthrough in Saudia Cargo’s broader expansion push, Saudia Cargo’s direct Riyadh-Melbourne route is poised to significantly reduce transit times for high-value shipments. In doing so, the route supports the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond oil and deepen commercial ties with markets across the Asia-Pacific region.
This milestone followed another remarkable step as Saudia Group signed an agreement with Boeing earlier this month to acquire four Boeing 777-200 freighters, further reinforcing its dedicated cargo fleet and accelerating the Saudi Vision 2030 ambition of becoming a global logistics hub.
