Joint Saudi, US Efforts to Protect Palestinian Civilians
Against the backdrop of the swiftly escalating situation in Gaza Strip, Saudi Arabia and United States are working closely to protect the Palestinian civilians in Gaza Strip amid Israeli intensive strikes.
The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the abovementioned words during his meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh on Saturday to discuss the events unfolding in Gaza.
“Indescribable” is the word that Blinken used to describe Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, adding that Hamas “does not represent the Palestinian people and their hopes”.
On his part, Prince Faisal reiterated the Kingdom’s call for ramping up efforts to halt the ongoing cycle of violence because the citizens are always the ones who pay the price, affirming that a ceasefire must go into effect to open a path for humanitarian aid.
In this regard, Blinken said that humanitarian aid must be delivered to civilians and safe areas should be established.
In addition to the Palestinian cause, the two ministers discussed topics of mutual interest, including establishing peace in the Middle East, especially between Israel and Palestine.
Situation in Gaza
Following Hamas attack on Israel, Israel started a series of airstrikes that resulted in significant numbers of causalities and flattened many residential buildings.
Israel ordered a full siege of Gaza, cutting off water, electricity and the internet.
The blockaded enclave has turned into a gray area of rubble, with lines of shrouded bodies and screams getting drowned out by the deafening sounds of airstrikes.
