The Saudi Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s condemnation of the terrorist attack on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi. The cabinet emphasised that Saudi Arabia stands by the Iraqi government and people to restore the country’s health and role, strengthen its security and stability, and improve its well-being and development.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi survived a “failed assassination attempt” by a “drone bomb” that targeted his residence in Baghdad at dawn on Sunday. The attack was not immediately claimed by any party. Al-Kazemi responded by calling for “calm and restraint.”
The attack, which did not result in casualties, occurred at a time when the country is experiencing severe political tensions against the backdrop of the results of the early parliamentary elections held on October 10. As the political blocs representing the Popular Mobilization, an alliance of Shiite factions loyal to Iran and affiliated with Iran rejected preliminary results that showed a decrease in the number of its seats.
The vicinity of the Green Zone, which also includes the US Embassy, has witnessed demonstrations and sit-ins, two weeks ago, of supporters of pro-Iranian factions rejecting the results of the parliamentary elections. Last Friday, it turned into confrontations with the security forces, in which at least one demonstrator was killed.
The Saudi Cabinet’s condemnation of the terrorist attack on the Iraqi Prime Minister was revealed at a Cabinet meeting held by video conference on Tuesday, which was chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prime Minister.
The members of the Saudi Cabinet began the meeting by congratulating the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques on the seventh anniversary of his assumption of office, as well as the complete growth that our country has seen during his successful reign.
Saudi Cabinet also emphasized the plans and programs of “Vision 2030,” which has made significant progress in the five years since its inception in achieving prosperity and building a better future for the Kingdom, so that its economy is a leader, and its society interacts with the world in a way that solidifies its leadership and position among nations, as well as its pivotal role regionally and internationally.
