Saudi–Bahrain Causeway Shuts over Potential Iranian Attacks

The authorities have closed the King Fahd Causeway, a vital bridge connecting Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Bahrain, early Tuesday amid escalating threats of potential Iranian attacks, according to Arab News.

The King Fahd Causeway Authority said that vehicle traffic had been “suspended as a precautionary measure” in response to Iranian attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

At the same time, the Saudi Ministry of Defense said early Tuesday that it had intercepted ballistic missiles targeting the region.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Spanning 25 kilometers, the causeway is Bahrain’s sole road link to the Arabian Peninsula and a strategic lifeline for the island kingdom, which hosts the United States Fifth Fleet.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran had only 48 hours to secure a deal on reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz or face what he described as “Hell”, according to Arab News.

“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Trump also noted that time is running out and “48 hours before all Hell will reign (sic) down on them,” adding: “Glory be to GOD!“
