Arab League to Hold Emergency Meeting Over Iranian Attacks

The Arab League’s Foreign Ministers are set to hold an emergency meeting on Sunday to address Iranian attacks targeting multiple member states after the joint US-Israel attacks, the bloc’s Assistant Secretary-General told AFP.

Hossam Zaki affirmed that Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and Jordan have all called for the videoconference meeting.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a wave of counterattacks in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit earlier denounced the Iranian attacks and described them as “fully reprehensible.”

He said that the attacks are “not only a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, but also an assault on the principles of good neighborliness.”

Moreover, Aboul Gheit noted that these retaliatory attacks have caused “an unprecedented state of hostility between Iran and its Arab neighbors.”

He further labeled the strikes as a serious strategic miscalculation by Iran, urging Tehran to correct this mistake by “immediately ceasing these attacks.”
