Saudi Aramco, Pasqal Unveil Kingdom’s First Quantum Computer

Saudi Aramco and Pasqal have jointly launched Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer, marking a significant technological milestone for the Kingdom.

The two companies also introduced the Middle East’s first commercial Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) platform. This new offering aims to build regional expertise while accelerating the development of quantum applications in energy, materials, and industrial sectors. Through cloud-based access, the platform allows users worldwide to tap into quantum computing capabilities remotely.

Housed at Aramco’s data center in Dhahran, the system provides secure, low-latency access to quantum hardware. It is designed to help tackle complex industrial challenges using advanced computational methods.

Ahmad Al Khowaiter, Aramco’s Executive Vice President of Technology and Innovation, emphasized that the achievement reflects the work of Saudi researchers and engineers. He noted that investments in training and research are helping develop local expertise that can support next-generation energy solutions, lower-carbon technologies, and improved operational efficiency. He also highlighted its alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and its role in fostering an innovation-driven economy.

Pasqal

Pasqal CEO Wasiq Bokhari stated that Aramco is playing a leading role in shaping the future of quantum computing. He added that deploying Pasqal’s systems for real-world industrial use—and making them accessible to regional businesses and researchers—supports the company’s mission to deliver practical and secure quantum computing at scale.

Since 2019, Pasqal has been developing high-performance quantum hardware and cloud-ready software for complex problems in optimization, simulation, and artificial intelligence. Its Quantum Processing Unit (QPU), first used in November 2025, operates using neutral-atom technology and controls 200 programmable qubits. The latest launch marks its transition into active use across a growing range of industrial applications.

Under the partnership, Aramco will work on a roadmap of use cases using production-ready quantum systems, focusing on hybrid quantum-classical solutions. These efforts target challenges such as port logistics optimization, CO₂ storage, well placement, and rig scheduling.

The platform will also be accessible to external organizations, including universities, research institutions, and enterprises, giving them access to one of the limited number of quantum computers available globally.

Aramco’s venture arm, Wa’ed Ventures, previously invested in Pasqal in January 2023, supporting efforts to localize advanced technologies and strengthen the regional quantum ecosystem.
