Iran Fires Massive Missiles Near Strait of Hormuz in Naval Drill

As part of naval maneuvers near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Iran launched a series of powerful missiles into the Sea of Oman, according to The Associated Press.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired missiles from deep within Iran’s territory, hitting targets in the Sea of Oman and areas near the strategic Strait of Hormuz during a naval drill that kicked off on Thursday.

A state TV reported that the missiles are cruise Qadr-110, Qadr-380, and Ghadir, each capable of striking targets up to 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) away.

It noted that the IRGC also launched a ballistic missile identified as 303, without providing further details.

This naval exercise marked the second one following the Israel-Iran war in June that lasted for 13 days, killing approximately 1,100 people in Iran, including military commanders and nuclear scientists. Meanwhile, Iranian airstrikes killed 28 Israelis.

The European powers, the US and Israel accused Tehran of using its nuclear program to develop nuclear weapons.

Iran has denied this accusation and said that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Iran and the US held five rounds of nuclear talks before Israel targeted Iranian nuclear facilities on June 13.

However, these talks faced key stumbling blocks such as uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, a step met with utter rejection by European powers which claimed that Tehran is enriching uranium for unpeaceful purposes.
