Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Boom: Visitor Spending Hits $24 Billion in First Half of 2024

Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector experienced significant growth during the first half of 2024. Inbound visitor spending reached SR92.6 billion ($24.5 billion), according to the Ministry of Tourism. This represents an 8.2% rise compared to the same period in 2023, underscoring the sector’s ongoing expansion.

Record Surplus in Travel Account

During this period, the Kingdom recorded a surplus of SR41.6 billion in its travel account. This achievement reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing popularity as a global tourist destination, further cementing its reputation.

Leading G20 in Tourism Growth

Saudi Arabia led G20 countries in international tourist arrivals and tourism revenue growth in the first seven months of 2024. According to the UN World Tourism Organization, the Kingdom’s tourism performance even surpassed pre-pandemic levels, showcasing its dedication to the sector.

In September 2024, the UN World Tourism Organization’s Barometer reported a 207% increase in tourism revenues. International tourist arrivals surged by 73%, positioning Saudi Arabia as a major player in the global tourism market.

Early Achievement of Tourism Milestones

In March 2024, the Ministry of Tourism celebrated reaching 100 million tourists by the end of 2023. This milestone was accomplished seven years ahead of schedule, reflecting the success of Saudi Arabia’s tourism efforts.

The Kingdom’s success in tourism is largely driven by its National Tourism Strategy. Saudi Arabia has focused on adopting best practices, improving services, and enhancing tourism offerings. Collaborations with various government entities have strengthened its standing as a global tourism leader.
