Saudi Arabia’s 11th Humanitarian Aid Flight Departs for Ukraine

Relief Mission to Assist Ukraine

Today, from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, the 11th Saudi humanitarian aid flight took off to Ukraine. This aid is operated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. The aircraft was loaded with 80 tons of relief materials bound for Poland’s Zosov Airport near the Ukrainian border.

The cargo includes generators and electrical equipment, prepared for delivery across the Polish border into Ukraine. Accompanying the flight were the Saudi Ambassador to the Republic of Poland, Saad bin Saleh Al-Saleh, and a team from the Center.

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Ukraine

The Kingdom has previously announced a humanitarian aid package for Ukraine valued at $400 million. This includes $100 million in humanitarian aid through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief). Moreover, it includes $300 million in petroleum product financing as a grant from the Saudi Development Fund.

Additionally, KSrelief signed agreements with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) to provide $10 million in medical and shelter aid to Ukrainian refugees, especially in Poland. This brings the total support provided to Ukraine to $410 million.

Support Reflecting Saudi Arabia’s Dedication

This support underscores the KSA’s commitment to aiding Ukraine and its people amidst the country’s social and economic challenges. Besides, it aims to alleviate the humanitarian impact resulting from these challenges, showcasing KSA’s dedication to supporting global humanitarian causes. Through these comprehensive efforts, Saudi Arabia does not only provide immediate relief but also fosters long-term recovery and stability in the region. It also demonstrates a profound commitment to international solidarity and compassion.

Previous Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine

Earlier this month, KSrelief sent relief aircraft loaded with 130 tonnes, comprising more than 16,000 necessary goods for Ukrainian families. It also included 50,000 units of infant milk.

Since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian War, KSrelief provided humanitarian aid that included food, health care supplies, and other necessities. This initiative was to lessen the suffering of individuals affected by the war.

KSA’s Role as Mediator in Russian- Ukrainian Conflict

In addition to providing humanitarian aid through KSrelief, the KSA aims to defuse the situation between Russia and Ukraine. Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince, has stated Saudi Arabia’s desire to arbitrate conflicts between Russia and Ukraine.

Furthermore, Bin Salman demonstrated the KSA’s diplomatic prowess by successfully negotiating the release of ten Western captives from Russian detention. This readiness demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s important role in global affairs and its commitment to upholding international peace.

Zelenskyy’s Visit to Saudi Arabia

Last Tuesday the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visited Riyadh and met the Crown Prince to advocate for peace negotiations and the repatriation of Russian prisoners of war. This visit proves the influential and powerful role of Saudi Arabia in de-escalating conflicts. It also showcases Ukraine’s trust in the Saudi wise leadership in disputing conflicts.
