Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Lands in Riyadh

Today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and his accompanying delegation arrived in Riyadh for a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Upon his arrival at King Khalid International Airport, several high-profile figures warmly received him.

Among the welcoming party was Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Emir of the Riyadh region. Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al Aiban, Minister of State was there too. Mohammed Al-Jabrini, the Saudi Ambassador to Ukraine and Anatoliy Petrenko, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Kingdom were also present to receive the Ukrainian President.

Significance of Ukrainian President’s Visit

This visit comes amid the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which signifies Ukraine’s confidence in the Saudi leadership’s ability to resolve international disputes. Moreover, it reflects KSA’s capacity to achieve comprehensive solutions that promote peace for both parties. This visit could also provide a platform for Ukraine to seek support amidst its ongoing challenges and conflicts.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian President’s visit marks a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia. His journey to Riyadh is a clear sign of strengthening ties and mutual interest between the two nations. Zelenskyy visit is expected to be about releasing Ukrainian soldiers from Russia’s detention. This signifies Ukraine’s trust in KSA’s leadership and its important role in bringing peace.

Ukrainian President Seeks to Strengthen Ukraine-Saudi Relations

In addition, the Ukrainian President’s visit to Riyadh holds substantial diplomatic importance. It demonstrates Ukraine’s eagerness to expand its international alliances beyond its traditional Western partners. For Saudi Arabia, this visit signifies an opportunity to diversify its diplomatic engagements.

Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and possible political support. Moreover, this visit could also provide a platform for Ukraine to seek support amidst its ongoing challenges and conflicts.

Zelensky’s Previous Visits to KSA

The Ukrainian President previously met with Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman to discuss the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. Zelenskyy highlighted in his previous visits the “Peace Formula,” an attempt by Ukraine aimed at ending the conflict and bringing about peace. Moreover, Zelenskyy also called for a concerted effort to free those detained in Russia. In reverse, the Crown Prince reaffirmed his nation’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in a show of solidarity.

KSA’s Support to Ukraine

Saudi Arabia did not save its effort to help Ukraine in its ordeal. KSA played the mediator role. Saudi Arabia facilitated a major prisoner exchange with Russia, involving nearly 300 people in September 2022. Moreover, Prince Mohammed effectively secured the release of 10 foreign POWs from Russia, showcasing Saudi diplomatic skill.

Saudi Arabia’s help to Ukraine is not only in the diplomatic arena but also on a humanitarian level. KSA has sent 10 relief planes to support the poor conditions in Ukraine. Saudi Arabia’s donations have benefited numerous Ukrainians. Notably, KSA’s aid included medical assistance, educational support, and infrastructure development.
